Does your water taste like medicine?

Aug 2, 2008
The number of Americans who abuse or use prescription drugs illegally now exceeds the number of Americans who abuse cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants, and heroin combined. The same study done by Colombia University also reported that the number of teens who abuse prescription drugs has nearly tripled since 1992. This is how vast array of pharmaceuticals including antibiotics, cholesterol reduction medication, mood stabilizers and sex hormones ,some of the 6 most popular prescription drugs, had been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans. The concentrations of these pharmaceuticals are tiny, measured in quantities of parts per billion or trillion, far below the levels of a medical dose, but the presence of so many prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines like acetaminophen and ibuprofen in so much of our drinking water is heightening worries among scientists of long-term consequences to human health. While researchers do not yet understand the exact risks from decades of persistent exposure to random combinations of low levels of pharmaceuticals, recent studies which have gone virtually unnoticed by the general public have found alarming effects on human cells and wildlife. Unlike most pollutants, pharmaceutical drugs were crafted to act on the human body with a specific effect at very low concentration. Along with theses new finding the evidence that adding chlorine, a common process in conventional drinking water and treatment of plants, can make some pharmaceuticals more toxic according to another research.Measures must be taken to remove these harmful substances from our ecosystem, but until this the day will become a reality there are things you and your family can do and one of them is Calcium bentonite clay.Calcium bentonite clay carries a uniquely strong negative ionic charge which attracts any substances with a positive ionic charge (e.g bacteria, toxins, metals etc.). The body does not absorbed clay so the clay passes via the body, collecting the toxins and removing them as the clay is eliminated. The calcium bentonite clay works like a vacuum cleaner of your digestive system. The clay assists the body’s elimination process by acting as a bulking agent, similar to specific fiber. The clay stimulates intestinal peristalsis, the muscular contraction that move food and stool through the bowels. The clay and the absorbed toxins are both eliminated together; this keeps the toxins from being reabsorbed into the bloodstream. The most common usage of clay in adults is supplementation and bath. A good version of clay will be smooth, creamy and have no taste. One to two tablespoons of hydrated clay is the recommended dose. Second option is taking bath clay twice a week. Clay bath will help keep your body cleanses by pulling toxins through the pores. Prepare your clay bath by putting about 2 cups of bentonite clay powder into the bath water. The more clay clay used in the therapy, the more powerful the response.
Now you can enjoy your water again!!!

Depression during pregnancy? The alternative way

July 18, 2008
Pregnancy is supposed to be one of the happiest times of a woman's life, but for many women this is a time of confusion, fear, sadness, stress and even depression. About 10-20% of women will struggle with some symptoms of depression during pregnancy, and a quarter to half of these will suffer from major depression. Mood disorders such as depression are biological illnesses that involve changes in brain chemistry. During pregnancy hormone changes can affect brain chemicals, which are directly related to depression and anxiety some women feel during their pregnancy.Additionally, women suffer from depression twice more often than men, and among women, there is an increased tendency toward depression during the reproductive years and it is documented that borderline depression can be affected by the hormonal impact of the menstrual cycle. The good news is that pregnant women diagnosed with major depressive disorder, can benefit from treatment with omega-3 fatty acid supplements. According to the findings of a clinical trial, Omega-3 fatty acid supplements may reduce depressive symptoms. "Depression has been reported to be associated with the abnormality of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), They propose that the requirements of the growing baby lead to "a profound decrease of omega-3 PUFAs in the mother during pregnancy," and this might "precipitate the occurrence of depression." Dr. Kuan-Pin Su, of China Medical University Hospital, Taiwan, and colleagues explain in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. The researchers assigned 36 pregnant women with depression to take 3.4 grams of omega-3 PUFAs or an inactive placebo daily for eight weeks. Patients given omega-3 PUFAs had significantly lower scores on a standardized depression scale after 6 and 8 weeks compared with those who received placebo. Furthermore, depression improved significantly in 62 percent of the women in the omega-3 group compared with 27 percent of those in the placebo group, also, the omega-3 supplements were well tolerated, no pregnancy complications were reported, and there were no adverse effects on the newborns.Last words it is important to maintain a good diet for a healthy pregnancy. After all, your baby relies on you for the vitamins, nutrients, and calories he needs throughout his development. A good pregnancy diet is well-balanced and addresses you and your baby’s specific needs. The Omega 3 rich foods are particularly essential. Omega 3 foods can provide your baby with the energy and materials necessary to good physical and mental growth. Omega-3s are also important for your own health and well-being during pregnancy.

Probiotics help distance runners stay healthy

July 6, 2008
The average human body, consisting of about ten trillion cells, and has about ten times that number of microorganisms in the gut .These microorganisms, also called, Probiotics perform a host of useful functions, such as fermenting unused energy substrates, training the immune system, preventing growth of harmful species, regulating the development of the gut, producing vitamins, and producing hormones. These “good” bacteria, known as Probiotics, are found in fermented dairy foods like yogurt, Natto, Kefir and are also available as dietary supplements. Probiotics primarily work by providing good bacteria in the gut to maintain a healthy balance in the digestive tract and stimulating the immune system. Endurance runners' strenuous training can erode their immunity and make them more vulnerable to catching colds, but a daily dose of "good" bacteria could bring their immune systems back up to speed, Australian researchers have shown."There is emerging evidence that ProBiotic supplementation can improve the health of a wide range of individuals including infants, athletes, people in highly active and/or stressful jobs, and in the general population," Dr. David Pyne of the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, one of the study's authors, told Reuters Health. To investigate whether the supplements help endurance athletes stay healthy, Pyne and his team randomized 20 healthy elite distance runners to take a capsule containing Lactobacillus fermentum or a placebo every day during their four-month winter training session. The athletes ran about 100 kilometers (62 miles) per week, on average. As the researchers report in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, runners who took Probiotics averaged 30 days of respiratory symptoms during the course of the study, compared to 72 days for those on placebo.Probiotics treatment also doubled levels of interferon gamma, a substance secreted by T cells that plays a key role in fighting viral infections. This better balance may improve mucosal immunity, or the ability of cells in the body's mucous membranes to fight off infection, throughout the body, Pyne said.
